Wheel alignment is an important, and often overlooked aspect of maintenance. A poorly set-up car is at best, ruining your driving enjoyment and at worst, unsafe. Pot holes and kerbs can easily change the alignment of your wheels, causing a poor handling car, and excessive wear on your tyres. For these reasons, we recommend checking the wheel alignment on your car on an annual basis.
We use Snap On fully digitised, four wheel, laser alignment tools and software coupled with our database. This allows us to find the correct geometry settings for almost every car in UK and Europe.
With this tool, we can set the geometry of nearly any car to suit the usage your vehicle will experience, from road, to track, to race. You would be surprised by the benefits we can find for you, when we simply reconfigure your car's suspension back to standard geometry settings.
We also have digital corner weighting scales. With this we can adjust the static weight distribution.
What are the benefits of correctly configuring your suspension?
Does your car pull to one side? Do you constantly have to move the steering wheel to keep your car travelling straight ahead?
Many handling problems can be corrected by total alignment. With all the system components aligned properly, road shock is more efficiently absorbed for a smoother ride.
Non-standard suspension setup
If you use your car for racing, drifting or on trackdays you will benefit from a non-standard suspension setup. We have experience in configuring suspension for specific types of event. We are also happy to configure your car's suspension to your specification and can advise on appropriate suspension settings for your car.
Reduced tyre wear
Incorrectly configured suspension is a major cause of premature tyre wear. Over the years, a properly aligned vehicle can add thousands of miles to tyre life. A full alignment can cost less than replacing a tyre!
Better fuel mileage
Fuel mileage increases as rolling resistance decreases. Total alignment sets all four wheel parallel which, along with proper inflation, minimizes rolling resistance.
A suspension system inspection is part of our alignment procedure. This allows us to spot worn parts before they cause costly problems.
Corner weighting is the next step in suspension setup. You may have heard people talking about “centre of gravity”, “weight distribution” or “weight transfer”. Corner weighting is exactly as it sounds, a way of very accurately weighing a car by its 4 points of contact with the ground, IE. its tyres.
Once a reading has been taken on our (??Intercomp??) 4-corner scales, we will accurately know the overall weight of your car as well as the weight on each tyre. This will then enable us to recommend various ways we can to improve this. On a car that has suspension with adjustable spring seats we can overcome small weight differences by adjusting the ride height on each corner.
This can greatly change, and improve your car’s handling characteristics, especially on a racing circuit, making you faster.
If you are racing, then it may be beneficial to adjust for each track to make you more competitive. We are more than happy to help you.
